6 Reasons Why You Should Switch to Reusable Cutlery

As we become more aware of the impact of our daily choices on the environment, many of us are looking for ways to reduce waste and live more sustainably. One area where

we can make a big difference is in our use of single-use items, like plastic cutlery. Fortunately, there's an easy and cost-effective solution: reusable cutlery.

Reusable cutlery can be made from a variety of materials, including metal, bamboo, wood, or even recycled plastic. The benefits of using reusable cutlery are numerous, and include:

Reducing Waste: By using reusable cutlery instead of disposable plastic cutlery, you can significantly reduce the amount of waste that you produce. According to the EPA, Americans throw away an estimated 100 billion single-use utensils every year. By using reusable cutlery, you can help to reduce this number and keep plastic out of our landfills and oceans.

Saving Money: While the upfront cost of purchasing reusable cutlery may be higher than buying disposable utensils, over time, reusable cutlery can save you money. Rather than constantly buying new plastic utensils, you can invest in a set of durable, long-lasting utensils that will serve you well for years to come.

Better Quality: Reusable cutlery is often of better quality than disposable plastic cutlery. They are more durable, comfortable to use and have a better grip. They do not break easily and they do not contribute to the plastic pollution that is affecting our oceans.

More Hygienic: With reusable cutlery, you have control over the cleanliness of your utensils. You can easily wash them in hot soapy water or sanitize them in the dishwasher. With disposable plastic cutlery, you never know how many hands have touched them before they make it to your plate.

Stylish and Unique: Reusable cutlery comes in a variety of designs, materials, and colors. You can choose from stainless steel, bamboo, wood, or even recycled plastic. This means that you can express your individual style and make a statement with your choice of utensils.

Portable and Convenient: Reusable cutlery is lightweight and easy to carry with you on the go. Many sets come with a carrying case or pouch, making it easy to take them with you to work, school, picnics, or other outings.

In conclusion, by making the switch to reusable cutlery, you can significantly reduce waste, save money, and enjoy better quality, more hygienic utensils. Additionally, with the wide variety of styles and designs available, you can make a personal statement with your choice of utensils. By taking this simple step, you can help to reduce plastic pollution and create a cleaner, more sustainable future.

PLA is not a biodegradable material in any environment, it is only compostable in industrial settings and shows little mineralization (not biodegradation) in most environments.

According to experts "Bamboo offers a nature-based solution to the plastic pollution problem.Bamboo has an obvious lower carbon footprint than PLA biodegradable plastic.

Bamboo grows rapidly. It’s an abundant renewable resource, making it an ideal, eco-friendly alternative to traditional paper products.Bamboo is 100% compostable within 2–6 months.

Bamboo releases 35% more oxygen into the atmosphere than the same volume of trees. By supporting the bamboo market, you’re supporting the continued carbon emission reduction contribute by bamboo plants.

In addition to bamboo straws, BECO also has more consumable products that help catering companies achieve sustainable development. The development of the bamboo industry is also highly compatible with the current "double carbon" emission reduction target.

BECO has made a breakthrough in its "bamboo instead of plastic" strategy. Since the start of the "plastic banning"policy, non-de

gradable disposable plastic straws have become the first plastic products to be restricted. Straws have always been a plastic product used in the public's life with ultra-high frequency.

The major catering leaders have shifted from plastic straws to paper straws.

This move to use paper straws has caused consumer dissatisfaction. Many consumers have poor experience with paper straws, it sticks to their mouths and has taste of core of toilet paper. There are even some comments that hit the nail on the head: paper straws are really environmentally friendly, it just degrades in my mouth.

Some people questioned that paper straws are pseudo-environmental, which can not achieve the effect of environmental protection. Because once the paper straw has been used and stained with food or drink, it does not have secondary use value. The structure of paper straws is paper, and the inner polyethylene or polypropylene coating, which is not pure paper, will be treated as "other garbage" when the garbage is being sorted, and will not be completely degraded during the degradation process.

And, the amount of consumables and emissions from the production of paper straws is also a big pollution of the environment.

According to experts "Bamboo offers a nature-based solution to the plastic pollution problem." Bamboo is a more low-carbon, fast-growing, easily renewable and biodegradable biomass material compared to other environmentally friendly materials. Bamboo rhizomes, bamboo poles and bamboo leaves can be all used fin bamboo straw production, and the bamboo industry value chain covers all aspects of production and life. There are more than 1,600 kinds of bamboo plants known worldwide, and the bamboo forest area is more than 35 million hectares, widely distributed in Asia, Africa and America.

In fact, BECO's fiber bamboo straw is a more ideal alternative. On the one hand, bamboo products have the advantages of anti-scalding and durability, which can solve the key problem of paper straw: soft and easy to dissolve, on the other hand, bamboo hasan obvious lower carbon footprint than PLA biodegradable plastic.

As a natural fibre, bamboo has the disadvantage that it's very easy to get mold, Beco's bamboo straw has solved this problem without any chemical processing. And the bamboo material can be used as a composite material to solve the weakness of easy cracking by compounding with other base materials.

BECO also adheres to two basic ideas when developing bamboo straws, one is to let consumers see at a glance that this is a straw made of bamboo, the appearance of the bamboo itself can be seen in the fibers, perceived the natural material of the product; the second is to meet the health needs of consumers.

The proportion of bamboo material used in life is much lower than wood and plastic, but it contains greater potential in energy saving and emission reduction. Bamboo has a strong carbon sequestration capacity, its ability to fix carbon dioxide is 1.4 times that of wood, and the production cycle is short and the conversion capacity is fast.

The development of bamboo industry is also highly compatible with the current "double carbon" emission reduction target.

Corporate focus on sustainability is a trend, advocating for carbon-neutral products, and looking for products that reduce their impact on the environment. Sustainable c

arbon neutral everyday consumables provide them with product options that allow them to make lower carbon choices and take more effective steps to reduce emissions, helping companies that want to achieve their carbon footprint achieve performance. Some companies such as the dairy-free milk firm, Oatly Inc. or Quorn, the meat substitute brand, already have introduced carbon dioxide emissions information on their product labels.

A product carbon footprint is the full inventory of all greenhouse gas emissions released throughout the product life-cycle. It is important to define the scope when calculating the carbon footprint of a product. Cradle-to-grave approach captures emissions from the extractions of raw materials, through to product’s manufacture, distribution, use and eventual disposal. According to Carbon Trust, this is the most used approach by consumer goods companies, and it is in line with the principles of a circular economy, where the full life-cycle of a product, including its end of life needs to be considered.

How consumers interact with products may be influenced by product design, marketing or point-of-sale information. For example, changes in the formulation of straws could reduce the required production and degradation cycles to impact greenhouse gas emissions.

Influencing consumers' environmentally sound disposal practices can be achieved through choice of packaging type and even through external initiatives to increase recycling and reuse. Carbon product footprint labels on product packaging can enable consumers to purchase products with an overall lower environmental impact.

Becoming "carbon neutral" means that any carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by the company's activities is balanced by the removal of an equal amount from the atmosphere by climate positive activities. The result is net zero carbon emissions, creating a more sustainable future for the global population.

There was once a time when eco-friendly promotional products were a niche category in the world of branded apparel and specialty items. Today, they’re among the hottest

types of items that companies can choose to promote themselves. Green giveaways and all other types of environmentally friendly specialties are very in demand right now, and they could make a great addition your company’s branded material.

What Are the Hottest Eco-Friendly Items?

One of the best things about opting to make your company’s promotional items more eco-friendly is that you’ll have quite a broad range of options to fit your needs. There’s a lot out there, and every day more and more vendors are expanding their sustainable offerings.

Some of 2022’s hottest eco-friendly specialty items include:

Pens – Plastic is long gone when it comes to pens. These days, there are all kinds of eco-friendly pens made from things like wheat, bamboo, recycled bottles, and more. There are also new refillable options. Another cool thing is that companies can find several of these writing utensils for around $0.25 each.

Reusable Bags – Everyone makes trips to the store. Why not help reduce plastic and paper waste by offering your clients reusable shopping bags featuring your company’s branding? This will also carry your image forward and make additional impressions as the bags are seen.

Sustainable Apparel – Apparel is one of the key markets where sustainable products are really taking off these days. Companies have also been replacing their entire wardrobe of branded employee clothing with renewable materials to better tie into their environmental goals. Examples include textiles made from plants (including vegan options), carbon-free manufacturing, and use of recycled and biodegradable materials.

Cups/Beverageware – And last but not least, cups, mugs, and other beverageware are also easily sustainably sourced. These have always traditionally been solid choices for promo items, and today they are commonly found as plant-based items or biodegradable, recyclable, or composed of recycled materials.

           What Should Marketers Know?

One important thing to note when choosing eco-friendly products for your company is to pay attention to how these products are labeled. The goal is to purchase items that are actually sustainable, even throughout their whole manufacturing process. There’s a lot of misleading information out there on certain items, so it’s recommended to at least be familiar with the Federal Trade Commission’s Green Guides. This guide was specifically designed to help marketers avoid making misleading environmental claims.

The Green Guides cover a lot of different topics and terms, but in general they stipulate that a product’s packaging must explain why it’s safe for the environment. Some of the terms to become familiar with include:

Recycled content – The FTC says, “It is deceptive to represent, directly or by implication, that an item contains recycled content unless it is composed of materials that have been recovered or otherwise diverted from the waste stream.”

Degradable – “A marketer making an unqualified degradable claim should have competent and reliable scientific evidence that the entire item will completely break down and return to nature.”

Renewable materials – “Research suggests that reasonable consumers may interpret renewable materials claims differently than marketers may intend. Marketers may minimize the risk of unintended implied claims by identifying the material used and explaining why the mater.

On the consumer level, demand for these kinds of items has never been higher. Spending data tells us a lot here. According to First Insight, a predictive analytics firm, nearly 90% of Gen X consumers would be willing to spend extra for sustainable products, compared to 34% two years ago. That’s a huge increase, and it rings true for all other generations of consumers.

As for corporate demand, sustainability initiatives have been a growing trend for several years that was notably accelerated last year. In fact, the Harvard Business Review called 2021 “the year that sustainable business went mainstream.” They reported that virtually all of the largest companies in the world now conduct sustainability reporting, thousands of firms have set carbon targets, and about a third of Europe’s largest firms have pledged net zero carbon goals in the next two decades.

orkers are scheduled to stop work at the Hong Kong-owned port for more than a week, starting on Sunday, Aug. 21, and ending on Monday, Aug. 29. Last week, workers voted for strike action with 92 percent of the vote.

A prolonged strike will almost certainly disrupt traffic at ports, exacerbating the problems the UK economy faces as it prepares for a deep, year-long recession.

The Felixstowe terminal on the Suffolk coast handles about 2,000 vessels a year equivalent to 4m 20ft containers - including some of the largest ever. According to Eurostat, it is the eighth largest container port in Europe.

In total, the port employs 2,500 people. Unite said the loss of most of its workforce, including crane drivers, machine operators and stevedores (who unload ships) would have a "huge impact" on the UK supply chain. However, a source at the port said the strike would not mean a complete shutdown of it.

The pay dispute is the latest in a series of issues affecting Britain's transport infrastructure. There were also long queues for travellers passing through Dover last month as the port was unable to cope with the influx of holidaymakers after term ended at many schools in England and Wales.

There have also been several strikes by workers and train drivers on British Rail, with further action planned for two days over the next fortnight.

China is deeply troubled by plastics and has recently been active in the emerging industry of degradable plastic products.

Last week, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held a press conference on marine pollution. Introducing the ministry's campaign to collect and recycle microplastics, an official took out a phone case made of recycled plastic collected by Chinese fishermen: By scanning a QR code, the source of the case can be traced to see who took it Pick up the plastic, who shipped it.

China is the world's largest plastic producer and consumer: in 2020, China consumed a total of 90.87 million tons of plastic. China consumes up to 3 billion plastic bags every day, a third of which is used for shopping. The supermarket industry consumes a total of 5 billion yuan ($746.79 million) of packaging each year, most of which are plastic shopping bags.

The degradable plastics industry is still in the early stages of development and commercialization. Outside of the medical industry, only a few products have achieved large-scale commercial production and application, including:

Polylactic acid (PLA), a bioplastic polyester (but very slow decay).

Polybutyrate adipate terephthalate (PBAT), a biodegradable alternative to low density polyethylene.

Polybutylene succinate (PBS), a thermoplastic polymer resin, degrades naturally in about six weeks.

In 2021, there will be 42,082 registered plastic recycling companies in China, a year-on-year increase of 59.4%, but one of them stands out as an obvious pioneer: Kingfa Technology.

The 2021 annual report shows that the annual production capacity of PBAT is 180,000 tons, and the PLA plant with an annual output of 30,000 tons is under construction, which is expected to be put into operation in 2022. Biodegradable plastics are used in single-use packaging and other uses in multiple industries, and the company's customers include IKEA, Unilever and Lenovo.

In 2020, several provinces in China banned the use of non-degradable plastic shopping bags, and on January 1, 2021, the use of plastic straws was banned nationwide. In 2021, the control of plastic waste pollution will be further promoted, and China has released the "14th Five-Year Action Plan for Plastic Pollution", which clarifies the recycling and utilization goals of plastic waste.

On May 31 this year, new and more specific regulations came into effect, setting standards and qualifications for companies.

On June 1, China implemented two national standards for biodegradable plastics, aiming to provide clear labelling standards for biodegradable products, involving labelling requirements and biodegradable straws.

According to the statistics of China Customs, the total trade volume of degradable plastic-related products in China will increase significantly in 2021.

China exported 136,900 tons worth 3.96 billion yuan ($591.9 million), a year-on-year increase of 27.88%.

The country imported 8,500 tons worth 1.96 billion yuan ($293.04 million), a year-on-year increase of 64.87%, with a trade surplus of about 2 billion yuan (just under $300 million).

It is estimated that by 2025, the total annual domestic demand for degradable plastics will exceed 4 million tons, more than nine times the demand in 2018.

The vast majority of rail lines in Wales will be out of service on Tuesday 21 June, Thursday 23 June and Saturday 25 June due to strikes by RMT union members working for the Network. According to official forecasts, only a third of UK general freight trains will be able to operate following a dispute between unions and Network Rail.

“Freightliner has been working with customers and Network Rail to develop contingency plans to keep as many freight operations as possible on strike day and any days before or after the action. However, during strike week, less than a third may be of freight trains are able to operate, which has a devastating impact on the UK's already strained supply chain."

Freightliner chief executive Eddie Aston said it would hit the UK supply chain hard. "We urge all parties to work together to find a quick solution to avoid any disruptive strike action," he said. "If no agreement is reached, the model of strike action proposed by RMT could cause significant disruption to the entire freight service." Zhou, and Serious disruption to the UK supply chain. Any protracted dispute threatens to damage confidence as the industry braces for growth. "

A spokeswoman for another freight company, Direct Rail, echoed the sentiment, saying: "We know the planned industrial action will affect the entire rail network. We are working closely with our customers and partners to ensure we can maximize effectively reduce its impact and provide a safe, secure and reliable service.”

But what impact will this drop in freight capacity have on the public. According to Sara Jones, head of the Retail Federation of Wales, with so much produce that can be trucked to supermarkets, it shouldn't have much of an impact on getting produce into stores.

She said: “While the use of freight trains to transport retail goods has increased as HGV operating costs have risen and efforts to reduce carbon emissions have increased, the total volume of retail food and merchandise transported by rail is Still relatively low. Trucking. So rail strikes are unlikely to have a significant impact on the movement of food and other retail goods across the country."

Jake Kelly, Network Rail's director of network operations, said in an interview: "We are working nonstop to keep vital freight flows across the country - including supermarket supplies and fuel - flowing during the strike action."

In the early stage of the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, the Sino-British charter flight of AHCT Group International Logistics provided a timely and efficient transportation channel for the transportation of important epidemic prevention materials. Based on an efficient global intelligent supply chain network, the average transportation time for a single flight is only 20 hours from the delivery of materials to the UK, which profoundly reflects the important strategic significance of laying out the global industrial chain of air cargo.

Today, in an environment where the epidemic situation is relatively normalized but continues to recur, it is also crucial to continue to adhere to the implementation of epidemic prevention measures. AHCT Group makes every effort to ensure the normal departure of the China-London charter flight. In the future, the continuous round-trip operation of this route will continue to expand the breadth and depth of cooperation between users in aviation logistics and other fields to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Previously, AHCT Group was developing advanced technologies related to supply chain solutions and logistics services, expanding the breadth and depth of integrated solutions, and helping customers improve supply chain efficiency and user experience.

In the future, AHCT Group International Logistics will also give full play to its international layout advantages in supply chain, logistics, etc., and rely on the mature technical strength of management and operating system in the e-commerce warehouse and distribution business, to manufacture overseas and high-quality goods for international brands Imports set up a global gateway.

HMRC will close its Customs Processing of Import and Export Cargo ( CHIEF ) system on 31 March 2023. From that date, all businesses are required to declare goods through the Customs Declaration Service ( CDS ).

Sophie Dean and Katherine Green, HMRC Director General for Borders and Trade, said:

CDS is a key part of the government's plan to build a world-leading fully digital border that will help UK businesses trade and prosper.

The announcement will provide clear information for traders and the border industry. Developed after years of consultation with the border industry, CDS will provide a safer and more stable platform with the ability to grow in line with the government's ambitious trade plans. Adopting a unified system for all imports and exports would also save taxpayers.

Semiconductors have been at the heart of some hefty global supply chain snarls, affecting a wide spectrum of industries. These include mobile phones, car manufacturing, and even lightbulbs.

Computer and tech companies have been struggling to keep up with roaring demand that started when workers shifted to working from home. Coronavirus factory shutdowns slammed chipmakers’ capacity to produce, leading to a backlog of orders.

Supply chains are likely to continue to face the threat of disruption over the next decade.

As anyone who has been involved in the supply chain industry can attest, supply chains are always subject to disruption. Natural disasters, terrorism, economic cycles and capacity shortages have created challenges since trade began.

Since the end of the Cold War, global supply chains have benefited from peaceful trade between developed and developing countries. Many poorer and less developed countries formerly ruled by communist or authoritarian regimes took advantage of new markets in developed countries and used global trade to move from subsistence to prosperous economies. Some of these countries developed into capitalism and democracies, while other governments used the free market system for the benefit of only those already in power and became rich and powerful enough to threaten the system that enabled them to ascend.

As the cost of producing these products continues to rise, future product buffer stocks are much less likely. Cheap labor provided by large numbers of young people is largely a thing of the past. This will make it more expensive for companies to produce buffer stocks, and supply chains are less likely to have the capacity to absorb short-term shocks inherent in complex global networks.

A supply chain market intelligence system is a category of data that monitors supply and demand developments and is critical for supply chain professionals trying to navigate an increasingly complex and opaque market. Materials and product supply are no longer guaranteed, so the need for constantly updated data models that track the balance of supply and demand is critical to a company's success.

The "GG TO CGO" cross-border e-commerce export special line charter flight is carried out by Boeing 747 (with a load of 100 tons), and the flight landed at Liege Airport in Belgium, which is the core area of cross-border e-commerce transactions. Belgium's strong and rich air capacity can achieve rapid multi-country connectivity, and is an important hub connecting Western Europe, Southern Europe and Northern Europe. After the flight lands, customs clearance and transshipment will be completed at the fastest speed, and the goods will be distributed to the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and other European countries.

The price of this charter flight is less than half of the current market price

With the deterioration of the global situation of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the phenomenon of inter-regional interruption has increased, and cross-border e-commerce relying on global supply chains, international logistics, and terminal distribution is in crisis, and international flights have plummeted by about 90%.

International transportation costs are rising, and small and medium-sized cross-border e-commerce companies are facing the test of "survival". , the export business of goods has an obvious trend of being hindered by insufficient transportation capacity. Many export and cross-border e-commerce companies are looking for charter flights in order to ensure the supply of goods to the outside world under the international epidemic.

"GG TO CGO" cross-border e-commerce export special line faced the difficult situation such as the sudden reduction of international flights, the large-scale suspension of flights around the world, and the increase of international freight rates, etc., it took the lead in opening up cheap cross-border e-commerce charter flights, and stabilized logistics with high-quality services below market prices. The short-term profit trend of freight rates increased sharply.

The high service quality of "GG TO CGO". Under the epidemic, cargo charter flights have become one of the main methods for the import and export of cross-border goods. However, there are not many cross-border cargo charter flights currently available. "GG TO CGO" can achieve stable flight transportation three times a week.

The planet is clearly calling for action. Nature is suffering. Oceans are full of plastic and become more acidic. Extreme heat, wildfires and floods have affected millions. Even these days, we still face COVID-19, a global health epidemic related to the health of our ecosystems.

Coal has played an important role. According to the US Energy Information Administration, in 2021 the share of electricity generated from coal increased for the first time since 2014. The International Energy Agency reports that global coal consumption increased in 2021, exceeding even the pre- pandemic 2019 levels. Further, more than 600 new coal-fired power plants are planned in Asia. Recall, coal was supposed to be on its deathbed. Indeed, the climate movement after waging a successful campaign against coal, was calling for an end to natural gas.

The cost of living is continuing to climb, with prices in the UK rising at their fastest rate for 30 years, according to the latest official figures.

Factors including supply chain issues, the war in Ukraine, recruitment challenges and increased wages have come together to create a perfect storm of higher costs, as the country recovers from the Covid pandemic.

Prices are increasing on a wide variety of products - here are five things which have been particularly affected and some of the reasons why.

Changes in prices at the pump are largely determined by crude oil prices.

Fuel prices were already rising before the war in Ukraine, as suppliers struggled to meet the growing demand post-lockdown.

But now the Russian invasion is making matters worse. The country is one of the world's largest oil exporters but Western countries have pledged to move away from Russian oil following the invasion.

The US has announced a complete ban on Russian oil imports, while the UK is to phase it out by the end of the year. The EU is also trying to reduce its reliance on Russian oil.

That means demand for oil from other producers has increased, leading to higher prices.

The UK imports just 6% of its crude oil from Russia, but 18% of its diesel.

The average price of diesel in the UK has risen 18% since the start of February, while the average cost of unleaded has risen by 11%.

The surge in global demand for energy following the relaxation of Covid restrictions has also pushed up the price of gas.

With Russia the world's largest natural gas exporter, the invasion of Ukraine has driven prices even higher.

Again, the UK gets relatively little of its gas from Russia but it's still affected by volatile global prices.

Energy bills rose further after the energy price cap - the maximum price suppliers in England, Wales and Scotland can charge households - increased by an average £700 a year at the beginning of April.

PLA - Walmart and others are going green with "biodegradable" packaging made from corn.

PLA resins are made into containers and packaging for food and consumer products. It's made from renewable resources, which means it has a big political and environmental advantage over traditional plastic packaging, which in the US uses an estimated 200,000 barrels of oil a day. In addition, PLA is in principle compostable, which means it breaks down into harmless natural compounds under certain conditions. That could ease pressure on the country's growing number of landfills, where plastic already makes up 25 percent of landfills by volume. With oil prices so high, corn-based plastics are starting to look cheap.

Natural food suppliers such as Newman's Own Organics and Wild Oats have been quietly using some PLA products for several years, but the material got its biggest boost when Walmart, the world's largest retailer, announced last October that it would sell some PLA products. Produced in PLA containers. The move is part of the company's efforts to counter criticism that it is not responsible for the environment. "Moving towards zero waste is one of our three environmental corporate goals," said Matt Kistler, vice president of private label and product development for the retailer. Walmart plans to use 114 million PLA containers annually, which company executives estimate will save 800,000 barrels of oil annually.

Food-Packing industry: PLA is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) when using it to store food. Even though it can release lactic acid in contact with specific liquids, it was not found to have a concentration high enough to harm humans. Read more about PLA in the food industry and what you really need to know about it.

Healthcare and Medical industry: PLA plastic is biocompatible, meaning that it can be used for devices in the human body with minimum inflammation and infection. As a result, and given its attractive source, it has been employed in the production of biomedical and clinical applications , in bone fixation devices, such as screws, plates, surgical structure and meshes, and drug delivery systems. An amazing addition is the possibilities in tissue engineering. Its bio-compatibility and its ability to dissolve in the body show that it posses great promise in solving problems such as tissue loss and organ failure.

Structural applications: PLA material can be used in the construction industry as, for example, foam for insulation, fiber used in carpets, and in furnishing. However, given its properties and biological susceptibility, it has restricted applications in this industry.

Textile industry: Efforts in the plastic industry, aim to take bio-sourced PLA fiber to replace non-renewable polyester textiles. The advantages include breathability, lower weight, and recyclability, among others.

Cosmetics industry: consumer awareness of plastic pollution has driven industries as the cosmetic one to seek sustainable solutions that ensure product preservation.

PLA plastic is sustainable because it comes from renewable resources that absorb CO2 and convert it into glucose. This will later be processed to obtain a nearly carbon-free product. After PLA material is ready to be disposed of by the consumer, it can be biodegraded .

           Market analysis

Generally, molecular sieves desiccants are synthetic zeolite materials engineered with pores of uniform sizes and structures. They work by adsorbing gas or liquid molecules that are smaller than the effective diameter of the pores while excluding molecules that are larger than the openings. The distinctive feature of molecular sieves desiccants is the aptitude to adsorb gases and liquids founded on the molecular size and division. Additional, owing to the crystalline configuration of molecular sieve desiccants, it is more active as associated to silica gel and alumina.

The other features of molecular sieve desiccants are high adsorption, well-organized adsorption even at elevated temperatures and low relative humidity, and no desorption phenomenon. The four major types of molecular sieves are 3A, 4A, 5A, and 13X. The type varies by the molecule's chemical formula, and it regulates the pore magnitude of the molecular sieve. Some of the major request areas of the molecular sieve are in the oil & gas, packaging, automotive, coatings, and adhesives businesses, as well as sealants & elastomers, manufacturing drying, refrigerants, and insulation glass.

The usual trend experiential in the global molecular sieve desiccants market is the use of molecular sieve desiccant bags or packets in consumer goods and packaged products. The important factor driving the growth of the global molecular sieve desiccants market is the high-performance characteristics of molecular sieves. Additionally, to this, the high request for molecular sieves in the oil & gas and automotive & transportation industries is also contributing to the development of the global molecular sieve desiccants market. The growing pharmaceutical industry is likely to create rewarding growth occasions for the players functioning in the global molecular sieve desiccants market during the said period.

US and EU announce major deal on LNG

Russia currently supplies about 40% of the EU's natural gas needs.

The new deal will involve the United States and other countries supplying an additional 15 billion cubic meters of gas on top of last year's 22 billion cubic meters.

The new total would account for about 24 percent of the gas currently imported from Russia.

The ultimate goal is for the U.S. and international partners to provide the EU with about 50 billion cubic meters per year.

Reducing reliance on Russia would mean producing more renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and increasing imports.

40% of the EU's natural gas comes from Russia. If it is to break free of this dependence, it needs to get its energy elsewhere.

The question is, where does it come from?

Gas is already being piped from Norway - but those pipelines are already running at maximum capacity. The EU gains relatively little from the North Sea.

The new supply has to come from farther afield, in the form of liquefied natural gas — gas that has already been cooled and liquefied.

But competition for LNG supplies from countries such as Algeria and Qatar is already fierce, which has been pushing up prices.

The 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas coming from the U.S. each year—more than double the current amount—is sure to be welcome.

But it still won't be able to fill the void if Russian supplies are removed.

There are also questions about how much natural gas the U.S. can supply, how quickly it can increase exports to the European Union and the cost of those goods.

The EU has enjoyed cheap gas for years - but now it seems to have accepted that era is coming to an end.

Energy prices were rising even before the invasion as the economy began to recover from the Covid-19 crisis.

The Ukrainian invasion has prompted the EU to pledge to cut Russia's gas use by two-thirds this year by boosting imports from other countries and boosting renewable energy.

The White House said immediate improvements in energy efficiency could be achieved by increasing the use of smart thermostats and heat pumps.

The EU said 15.5 billion cubic meters could be replaced this year through household energy conservation and emissions reductions, and 20 billion cubic meters could be replaced by accelerating wind and solar deployment.

The EU aims to save 170 billion cubic meters by 2030 through energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy.

The $170 billion on top of an additional $50 billion planned for gas from the U.S. and other countries means Europe's reliance on Russian gas could be displaced by 2030.

The U.S. banned all Russian oil and gas imports in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the U.K. will phase out Russian oil imports by the end of 2022.

The EU has said it will switch to alternative supplies "by 2030" and make Europe independent of Russian energy.

Germany has suspended the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which was allowed to open from Russia.

Meanwhile, petrol prices in the UK have hit record highs as the cost of oil and gas has soared.

Oil prices soared to as high as $139 a barrel earlier this month, their highest level in nearly 14 years, while wholesale natural gas prices for next-day delivery more than doubled.

Lithium Hydroxide Market 2022 Market Trend Analysis

As governments and vehicle manufacturers take steps to phase out internal combustion engine vehicles to meet carbon emissions reduction targets, demand for lithium is soaring to the point where lithium shortages are already being forecasted for the near term. Benchmark Mineral Intelligence has predicted that there will be deficits of lithium as early as this year. The price of lithium has also been dramatically affected, increasing by more than 300 percent in 2021. It currently stands at approximately $58,000 a metric tonne. Increased mining activity alone cannot mitigate the shortages. Mining is environmentally costly and takes five to seven years to get operational; recycling is critical to meet future demand.

"Morningstar, Inc. has predicted that lithium-ion demand will likely outstrip production within the next five years, and demand for lithium will only continue to skyrocket as the world transitions from fossil fuels to a renewable energy economy," said David Regan, Aqua Metal's vice president of commercial. "As of today, the only commercially proven recycling technology for lithium-ion batteries is smelting, which has a negative environmental impact and does not recover the lithium or manganese. Applying the proven AquaRefining process to lithium-ion batteries has the potential to be an important industry breakthrough, as we believe it is the only truly sustainable recycling technology under development that recovers all the valuable metals and compounds without using high heat or consuming massive quantities of chemicals that create difficult to manage waste streams."

Oil ban continues, Europe hit by gas cuts

Russia has said it could shut down the main gas pipeline to Germany if the West goes ahead with its ban on Russian oil.

The EU gets about 40% of its natural gas and 30% of its oil from Russia, and there are no easy alternatives if supplies are disrupted.

While the UK will not be directly affected by supply disruptions as it imports less than 5% of gas from Russia, it will be affected by higher prices in the global market as European demand increases.

Iain Conn, former boss of British gas company Centrica, said gas was "less free to trade" than oil and that if supplies were affected, it would be "more difficult" to replace Russian gas because it was produced through Fixed pipeline transportation.

Ukraine has pleaded with the West to impose a ban on oil and gas, but there are fears it will send prices soaring. Investor worries about the embargo pushed Brent crude as high as $139 (£106) a barrel on Monday - its highest level in nearly 14 years.

Brent crude oil prices rose modestly in the second week of March, rising 3% to $121 a barrel.

Meanwhile, wholesale gas prices rose to 565p/thermal after opening from 501p

U.K. stocks edged higher in early trade after Monday's volatility amid U.S. discussions over a potential Russian oil and gas ban.

In the second week of March, nickel prices on the London Metal Exchange more than doubled to above $100,000 a tonne for the first time, before trading in the metal was suspended.

Russia supplies about 10% of the world's nickel needs, mainly for stainless steel and electric vehicle batteries.

Environmental Friendly Materials Helps Businesses Tackle Plastic Packaging Tax

The idea of sustainability can sometimes seem like a daunting prospect - especially when businesses want to make the switch to sustainability but aren't sure where to start.

Working towards net-zero commitments is an issue of particular importance in 2022, not only because of a heightened awareness of the need to tackle carbon emissions, but also because of the imminent introduction of new taxes that could affect how businesses operate.

The government's new plastic packaging tax, which will come into effect in April this year, aims to encourage the use of recycled materials in the production of plastic packaging. The tax applies to manufacturers and importers of plastic packaging components that contain less than 30% recycled plastic, giving businesses good reason to start looking into using more recycled materials in their operations. If your business manufactures or imports plastic packaging, you may be required to register for tax and will be charged £200 per ton.

According to the Waste and Resources Action Plan, packaging accounts for almost 70% of plastic waste in the UK. The plastic packaging tax was first proposed in 2017 and passed last year. In addition to the 30% recycling rule, any packaging whose weight is not predominantly plastic is also exempt.

One goal of the policy is to provide economic incentives for businesses to use more sustainable packaging, create demand for recycled materials and increase recycling, while diverting waste from landfills.

Sustainable packaging has been an area where companies are trying to make sustainable changes, and this comes at a time when regulations are increasing to deal with plastic waste. This week the United Nations aims to eliminate plastic waste.

About 100 personal care brands recently pledged to reduce their packaging footprints with plastic neutral or negative plastic. Seafood supplier NAFCO is using reusable plastic containers to improve shipping efficiency and reduce costs.

For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that may not have a dedicated sustainability team, the idea of tackling a daunting task, such as rethinking their reliance on plastic or facing a blow from higher tax rates, seems like an impossible task.

Express specialist said freight services to Ukraine have effectively stopped, and many services to Russia have been suspended.

In this context, even if British companies do not have a presence in Eastern Europe, the cost of conflict will affect them.

David Jinks MILT, head of consumer research at Express specialist， said: "What has been dubbed 'Putin's war' in Europe is sure to hurt Russia and Ukraine economically, but UK businesses are already feeling the same. to its impact.

“The invasion had a direct economic impact on Russia, which doubled interest rates on Monday to 20% before falling back to 20% after the ruble fell by as much as 30%. However, big and small, British international businesses Costs are also being calculated.

“Most international package operators have suspended services to Ukraine from February 24, and major couriers such as UPS, FedEx and TNT have also suspended international services to Russia. Most couriers will now be shipping as much as possible Items in are returned to sender.

"Logistics companies such as DHL and DSV are asking their Ukrainian employees to stay home with their families and follow instructions from local authorities."

'Ukraine is an important air corridor for European air traffic and rerouting will lead to - hopefully in the short term - loss of capacity.

'Sea freight is also affected. Ukraine's main port of Odessa, where it said two foreign merchant ships were shelled by Russian troops, was not in service. Ground cargo is being diverted through Romania, Lebanon and Greece.

“Container shipping company Ocean Network Express (ONE) has now suspended container bookings to and from Russia just hours after Maersk said it was considering doing so.

“Most major Eurasian rail freight services (about 95%) do not pass through Ukraine. Direct freight trains enter Ukraine through its border with Poland, but these are mainly war materiel.

“It wasn’t just physical sales to Russia that were affected. After those countries removed selected Russian banks from the Swift messaging network and froze the assets of the Russian Central Bank, UK, EU and US companies operating electronic services in Russia Payments blocked. Cards issued by VTB Group, Sovcombank, Noikombank, Promsvyazbank and Otkritie are no longer available to Russian customers trying to pay for Netflix subscriptions or to access paid services from Apple and Google.

E-commerce is also affected. Etsy has waived all fees owed by Ukrainian sellers totaling about $4 million, and eBay.com has announced that it has suspended its Global Shipping Program service in Ukraine and Russia.

'Looking beyond the immediate logistical problems for deliveries, it is likely UK businesses will see an increase in costs because of a rise in diesel and petrol prices. Even though the UK is nowhere near as dependent on Russia for oil and gas as the EU, increased demand is pushing up prices everywhere. For example, diesel is now at 154.72p per litre, says the RAC.

'Food retailers are likely to see an increase in prices. The Russia-Ukraine plains were once called "the breadbasket of Europe". The area exports about a quarter of the world's wheat and half of its sunflower products, such as seeds and oil. In addition, Ukraine sells a lot of corn globally. Some analysts are predicting a doubling of global wheat prices.

‘Ukraine has a very large heavy-industry base and is one of the largest refiners of metallurgical products in Eastern Europe. It’s also well-known for its production of high-tech goods and transport products, such as aircraft.

‘There are five industries where the share of Russian exports to the EU is significant: textiles, pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, machinery and transport equipment. Supply chains and costs could be impacted in all these sectors.

UK car manufacturers such as Jaguar-Land Rover have halted all deliveries to Russia, while Mini has had to suspend production for five days because of the “ongoing parts supply situation, now including the conflict in Ukraine”.

'How much could all this cost UK businesses? It's too early to tell but, during the far smaller Ukraine conflict of 2014, a report by the Vienna Institute of International Economic Studies said Germany lost around £2.51bn (EUR 3 billion), followed by Italy, which lost around £1.17bn (EUR 1.4 billion). France, Great Britain and Poland each lost around £0.67bn (EUR 0.8bn). The current conflict is on a far larger scale and the economic sanctions imposed on Russia are far more severe, so expect these numbers to be the tip of the iceberg.

The 3PL return process begins when a customer initiates a return.

           1. Create a Return Material Authorization

3PL uses a Return Material Authorization (RMA) form. Some return processing centers refer to this as a Return Material Authorization (RGA) or simply a Return Material Authorization (RA). You can also create an RMA using the online portal. The form tells the warehouse what to expect. It includes information such as customer name, authorized return date, order number, and carrier tracking number.

When the returned item arrives at the warehouse, we compare it to the RMA to make sure it matches. We then notify the customer that we have received the return.

           2. Discard returned food

The next step in returns processing is to assess the condition of the returned item. However, if the return is for food, the return processing center does not need to inspect it. You must throw away food because you cannot sell returned food.

           3. Check the package for damage

If a customer returns your product in the original box, the next step is to inspect the packaging for damage. It is not uncommon for product packaging to become dented, torn or otherwise damaged during round-trip shipping. This is especially true if the product is shipped in a package without an outer carton. Damaged packaging may also include torn plastic wrapping around the box.

Part of the buying experience that customers expect when purchasing a new product is "unboxing" it from its original packaging. As a result, companies often sell items with damaged boxes at a discount, even if the product is intact.

           4. Put products in "new" status back into inventory

Items that can be resold as "new" should be back in stock shortly once the returns processing center has inspected the product. This is the ideal result for your business and returns processing center.

Your 3PL service provider can help you restore some products to like-new condition. For example, your 3PL warehouse can refold and repack unworn clothing. This will keep them neat, crisp and ready for the next buyer.

Return processing is often slower than order fulfillment. Returned products need to be inspected and handled individually. Additionally, returns may be slower during the coronavirus pandemic. While it's unlikely someone will catch the virus from touching the box, e-commerce fulfillment warehouses have had to implement new hygiene measures that could slow returns processing.

           5.3 PL return flow example

The return process looks different for every business and every product. Ship large quantities of bulky products. These generally have lower return rates, but they are more likely to be returned with damaged packaging. This means that 3PL services have to be creative with returns handling.

When returning goods, 3PL will follow the specifications specified by the customer. If there are clear return instructions, the 3PL servicer will check with the customer before processing the return. A successful reverse supply chain puts as many returned items as possible online for resale.

Heineken, the world's second largest brewer, has warned that it will increase the price of its beers due to the impact of inflation.

The firm, which sells brand including Strongbow cider, Amstel and Europe's best-selling lager, Heineken, blamed soaring ingredient and energy costs.

It comes after the founder of Cobra beer also said its prices will rise because of "vicious" cost pressures.

Neither firm has said how much their prices will go up by.

Heineken's chief executive Dolf van den Brink said: "These kind of price increases and inflation, I think we have not seen in a generation."

He added that putting up prices could lead to "softer beer consumption" as drinkers reined in their spending due to soaring living costs.

Beer prices will have to rise, says Cobra founder

Why are prices rising so quickly?

Living costs at 30-year high as households squeezed

Inflation in the UK hit a new 30-year high in January as energy prices, fuel and food costs continued to rise. The cost of living is now rising faster than wages and is expected to climb above 7% this year.

Marmite-maker Unilever, the bakers Greggs and sandwich chain Pret a Manger have all warned on price rises as their costs rises.

Heineken said its input costs were now set to rise by a mid-teens percentage due to the price of barley doubling compared to a year ago and aluminium prices going up by around 50%.

Transport and energy costs have also risen for the business.

'Uncertain year'

It comes after a strong year for the Dutch brewer, when consumers splashed out on alcohol during the pandemic.

Heineken said that its net revenues increased by 11.3% to 21.9 billion euros (£13.4 billion) in 2021, with sales of its Heineken-branded beer up by 17.4%.

The brewer's profits rose by 80%, although it said the coming year remained "uncertain" due to "inflationary challenges".

Huw Dixon, Professor of Economics at Cardiff University and the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, questioned the brewer's decision to put up prices.

"Heineken's strong sales seem to indicate that their profit margins aren't being squeezed even though there might be certain costs that are rising," he told the BBC.

"It's very hard for us as experts to say whether Heineken's increased production costs are wholly reflected in higher prices for customers."

Inflation is at a 30-year high and fuel costs are set to rise from April. Rising bills are not only affecting households, but business costs are also rising. What are the companies doing and will their customers see their prices go up too?

"It's very difficult at the moment," said Matt Hammond, business development manager at Savoy Foods, a food service company based in Great Yarmouth.

"We're trying to deal with all this growth, whether it's fuel, electricity, especially electricity from suppliers, getting continued growth from suppliers," he said.

"So we have to look at every aspect of the business to try to offset some of the growth that's coming.

"We had to pass some of that growth on to customers because we couldn't sustain it any longer."

Tom Kimber-Smith, manager of Lion Engineering at Great Yarmouth, said their jobs were picking up since the pandemic, but they were "seeing astronomical numbers".

"It's a problem, but it's a good problem, and during a pandemic, the lack of work and having to let people go is a bad problem," he said.

But he said the business "is grappling with increased costs, energy bills, raw materials, consumables, and we're trying not to pass that on to our customers, and that's a fight we fight every day".

"It's very difficult to be competitive in the market we're in, we're trying to cover as much of the cost as possible, but ultimately we have to pass it on," he said.

UK Toy Sales Rose Unpredictably Last Year Due To Supply Disruptions

The British Toys and Hobbies Association says 2020 has proven to be an unexpectedly good year for sales of large toys and games. The demand for entertainment from households during the lockdown has driven the market.

That momentum waned last year, but sales were still 2% above pre-pandemic levels.

The average price of toys in 2021 has fallen by 2% to £10.22 compared to the previous year.

Despite the industry's encouragement of early Christmas buying, sales jumped by a massive 35% in the last week before Christmas.

Part of the reason for the rise is that Christmas falls on a Saturday, which allows for a full week of trading in the first few days.

BTHA's Kerri Atherton said the challenges for the coming year and Christmas 2022 were largely focused on supply chain issues.

Competition for containers among industries and congestion at ports meant toy makers faced issues with supplying materials and shipping toys to the retail market, she said.

This drives up their costs, which may ultimately be reflected in consumer prices. Product availability and shipping reliability are also an issue, she said.

"A toy store is never empty, but it has an impact," she said.

BTHA's annual trade show will take place in London's Olympia over the next three days, showcasing some of the products that could be in stores over the Christmas period.

Sales in the UK dropped by 3% last year compared with the previous 12 months, said market research group NPD.

The supply of materials and transportation of finished toys, particularly on shipping containers are creating a headache for manufacturers.

But a toy industry trade body said the sector was remarkably resilient.

Bucking the trend were scientific and educational toys, with some suggestion that their popularity among girls in particular could have been inspired by the Gilbert effect.

Prof Dame Sarah Gilbert became a household name as one of the creators of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine.

Taxes on sparkling wine, draught beer and cider will be cut under the new liquor tax system due to start in 2023, but higher on hard drinks such as red wine, the chancellor said in the Budget.

According to the Wine and Spirits Trade Association (WSTA), if wine were taxed in this way based on alcohol concentration, then 70% of wines, still or sparkling, would go up in price, 80% of still wines Prices will also go up, 95% red wine and 100% fortified wine.

Tim Curtis, Treasurer of Direct Wines, told the BBC's programme that under the current system there are three tax rates on wine: one for still wine, one for slightly higher sparkling wine and one for wine. The kind is fortified wine. .

The WSTA has calculated that implementing the changes will cost the wine trade around £250 million a year.

He also said wine association members would pay more for their wines as a result of the proposed changes.

Most still wines sold by the association, as well as the UK as a whole, have an ABV of 11.5% and above.

"That's about 95 percent of our sales," he said. "And we estimate that with the new tax, customers will end up paying an extra £2 million a year in duty, so the cost of wine will increase because the tax will increase."

New tax! UK to super implement plastic packaging tax from April 2022

Plastic restriction and ban have long been an important measure in the process of promoting sustainable development globally, and have also become a policy trend of various countries. Following the EU's implementation of the plastic tax, the UK has also issued a new tax - the plastic packaging tax. For plastic packaging produced in the UK or imported into the UK. The resolution has been legislated in the Finance Bill 2021.

From 1 April 2022, the UK will levy a plastic packaging tax of £200 per tonne for plastic packaging manufactured or imported into the UK in excess of 10 tonnes each year and using less than 30% of recycled plastic.

In addition, the United Kingdom has regulations on whether to use this tax on packaging, and even if consumers need to buy and use disposable plastic packaging, they need to levy plastic packaging tax.

In terms of composite packaging, if plastic is used in the highest proportion of the packaging varieties, all of them are regarded as plastic packaging, and plastic packaging tax needs to be levied. If not, the tax is not levied.

The tax applies to finished plastic packaging manufactured in the UK or imported into the UK if the plastic used is less than 30% recycled by weight.

Where the plastic recycling rate is less than 30%, the tax rate payable is £200 per metric ton, payable by the producer/importer.

Businesses are obliged to register and keep records from the moment they import or manufacture plastic packaging of 10 tons or more, and may need to register even if they do not have to pay taxes, depending on whether they fall below the 30% recycled content threshold .

However, producers and importers of a small amount of plastic packaging will receive tax exemptions, such as the following three categories, regardless of the proportion of recycled materials used, enjoy tax exemption:
